11/4 Class Assignment


Part 1: Review of "would"

Look at the picture and post a sentence. Use "would". Remember we are studying two specific ways to use it.

Past Habits: The women would smile at the king when they saw him.

Reported (Indirect) Speech: He told them he would have a great party in the spring.


Part 2: Speech (Direct and Indirect)

Compare the next 2 sentences.

a) He told them, "I will have a great party in the spring."

b) He told them he would have a great party in the spring.

Read the examples, and then look at the picture below.

With a partner, what are they saying? Use direct and indirect speech. I'll ask a few groups to give me their sentences for the class to look at:)
